There are a large number of cat breeds in the world. They differ from each other not only in external characteristics, but also in character, behavior and intelligence. One of the most beautiful representatives of domestic cats is the Asian tabby. The article will give a detailed description of this breed and consider the rules of keeping.

Origin story

The Asian tabby is native to Great Britain. The breed belongs to the group of Asian cats with short hair. To breed this species, several breeds were used at once. According to one version, a pair of Burmese and Persian chinchilla was used, the offspring of which were crossed with Abyssinians and again with Persian chinchillas.

Another version says that species such as the sacred Burmese, the Persian chinchilla and the Abyssinian cat were used for breeding. The goal was to obtain an animal with developed muscles and aristocratic habits.

The Asian tabby was officially recognized as a separate breed in 1990. In Russia, such cats are not widely used, and therefore the cost of them is quite high.

Asian tabby combine power and grace. Cats of this species have a fairly developed musculature. The body of an animal is of medium size, and the total mass of an adult can range from 4 to 7 kilograms. Girls usually have a smaller mass, since they are initially smaller than males.

Despite the muscularity of animals, their body does not have sharp lines and transitions, but, on the contrary, is distinguished by soft outlines. The paws of Asian tabbies are as powerful as the body and are of medium size. The proportions of the limbs in relation to the body of the animals are observed.

The tail of medium length has the correct straight shape, without any bends. A small brush is allowed at the end. The ears of Asian tabbies are small and slightly rounded at the ends. On the forehead there is a pronounced “scarab sign”.

The head of the cats is rounded and visually resembles a blunt wedge. The lines on the muzzle of the animals are also smoothed out and have smooth outlines. The nose is small and straight, and the eyes are slightly slanted and almond-shaped. The shade of the iris can vary from light yellow to rich amber.

The coat of the Asian tabby breed is short and dense. In structure, you can compare it with a fur coat. The coat is pleasant to the touch and has a strong sheen, which is especially noticeable under the sun.

The color palette of Asian tabbies is quite wide, it contains both light and dark tones. If we talk about patterns on wool, then the following types of colors are distinguished.

  • Marble – there are symmetrical patterns on the sides of the case. In shape, they resemble spirals or stains on marble.
  • Spotted – all over the body, which usually has a light shade, dark spots of various sizes are randomly scattered.
  • ticked – characterized by a predominantly monochromatic coat without sharp transitions. The hairs have a contrasting color at the ends. The eyes, nose and mouth of cats are usually outlined with a thin line.
  • Brindle – the shade of wool is most often light. On the case there are dark vertical lines that are parallel to each other.

Character and behavior

Representatives of the Asian tabby breed are distinguished by a gentle character, good disposition. Animals willingly make contact with people, confirming their friendliness and sociability. Despite their calm nature, Asian tabbies love active pastime and various games.

Cats easily find a common language not only with people, but also with other animals that live with them on the same territory. The breed does not have the habit of holding evil and taking revenge. Also, representatives of this species are quite obedient and complaisant, and therefore will not spoil the decoration, furniture and other things in the house.

Asian tabbies are highly intelligent and do not require educational work. The animal by its nature is extremely restrained, and in communicating with people it shows good breeding and tact.

If desired, you can teach the cat various commands and tricks, as they lend themselves well to training.

Asian tabbies do not require much attention from others and are quite self-sufficient. This breed is suitable for busy people who do not have much time to devote to their pet. Cats get along well with children and are patient with their excessive attention.

Asian tabbies love not only their main owner, but also every member of the family. Cats have a hard time with bad treatment, which can lead to mental problems. Animals appreciate the love and care of the owner and gladly reciprocate.

It is not recommended to take cats with you on trips or give them overexposure to other people.. A pet can quickly get used to a new environment and people.

Therefore, upon returning home, he will again have to adapt to the old environment. It is better to leave the cat on your territory and ask someone to visit her.

Small kittens are usually more active than adults. Regularity and calmness appear in a cat only with age. The Asian tabby is an ideal breed to keep at home. These cats are suitable for people of all ages.

Maintenance and care

Asian tabbies appreciate calmness and homeliness. Although cats do not need the constant attention of the owner, but with its complete absence, they can begin to feel sad. If there are no other animals in the house for the cat to play with, it is recommended to equip a play complex for her.

Representatives of this breed do not really like to be on the street, so it is not necessary to arrange walks for the cat. As for caring for a pet, in many respects he copes with this task. The coat of such cats is short and does not have an undercoat, so it does not need special care. It will be enough to comb the animal no more than once a week.

For hair care, you can use a special glove for combing out old hairs or a massage brush. During the molting period, the procedure is recommended to be carried out at least twice a week. The eyes, ears and teeth of the animal should be checked regularly for contamination.

The auricles must be cleaned of excess sulfur, otherwise the animal may begin hearing problems. As for the oral cavity, in domestic cats there is a risk of tartar formation. It is recommended to periodically brush your pet’s teeth mechanically. or use more gentle cleaning methods.

For example, you can buy a special liquid at the pet store that is added to the cat’s drinking water.

It is also recommended to introduce more solid food into the animal’s diet or purchase special delicacies in the form of sticks or bones.

In order for a pet to grow up healthy, it is necessary to responsibly approach the issue of nutrition. Food from a human table is not suitable for cats, so you do not need to feed it with leftover food from your own diet. It should also be remembered that nutrition must be balanced.

No need to overfeed your pet. Care must be taken to ensure that the products consumed have all the necessary elements for growth, development and a healthy life. It is best if the cat’s diet contains both natural products and ready-made food.

Since cats are predators, they need protein food. The pet menu should contain meat and fillet of sea fish. It is better to give the animal raw beef, boiled chicken and boiled offal. Do not give your cat fish often, otherwise the animal may have kidney problems.

Milk can only be given to small kittens, as adults do not digest this product and can cause serious health problems. In addition to meat food, it is recommended to include vegetables and cereals in the diet.

As for ready-made feeds, it is important not to save on a pet. Cheap food does not contain useful elements in its composition, and therefore the cat will not receive the components necessary for life. Such products are not useful, but only temporarily cause the animal to feel full. Excessive consumption of low-quality feeds with an excessive content of plant components can cause obesity.

It is important not to forget about clean and fresh water. It should always be poured into the cat’s bowl, and the animal should have access to it at any time of the day.

Health and longevity

Representatives of the Asian tabby breed do not have any hereditary pathologies. Health in animals is usually strong and largely depends on the correct maintenance. Despite strong immunity, Asian tabbies need timely vaccination.

At home, it is necessary to regularly treat the animal from fleas and ticks, as well as solder from helminths. Not a single domestic cat is immune from the attack of parasites, even if he does not go outside and does not come into contact with other animals.

A person can bring fleas and ticks into the house on their clothes or shoes, as well as helminth eggs. Worms can appear in a pet after eating raw infected meat, fish.

As for life expectancy, it also depends on the care of the animal. Under favorable conditions, the Asian tabby can live up to 20 years or more. On average, individuals live 15 years.
